He succeeded his father in the estates of Hunstown and Fallagh Erin and married, first (18 August 1870, Ballingarry, County Tipperary, Ireland), Miss Mary Elizabeth Odette MacKay (died after 2 July 1875), daughter of Manners MacKay, Es q., of Moreen, County Dublin (by his wife, a daughter of Benjamin Bunbury, of Lisbryan, County Tippperary), and had two sons and one daughter:"

2 - A communication received from James Francis Lenox, the sixth representative, whose address was Mill Bay, Cobble Hill, British Columbia, is as follows:
"As regards my family, some 20 years ago a Colonel MacFarlane of Perth wrote to my father saying that for some years he and some other members of the Clan had been making investigations as to who was the head of the Clan. They came to the concl usion that my father was, and asked him if he had the old escutcheon which used to be hung upon the church for a certain period after the death of the Chief, when it was handed over to the custody of the new Chief. This having been in our po ssession for many generations it was considered proof that Col. MacFarlane's conclusion was correct. This article, upon which was painted that Coat of Arms, was about 3 1/2 feet x 3 1/2 feet and diamond shaped. Some time ago my father wished t o have a copy painted as it was showing signs of age, and he lent it to a sister-in-law of mine who is a painter, Miss A.G. McKay, and I never saw it again. I fear it has been mislaid. I would give a good deal to get it back as it was a g ood many hundred years old."
This family's Coat of Arms was sketched from a book plate, copied from the Arms on the old escutcheon, referred to above, nearly two centuries ago. Henry James subsequently compared the two. The Royal«i» «/i»Crown in the crest rests upon a book, w hich Captain C. J. Napier MacFarlane was taught to believe represented Holy Writ.
Captain Napier MacFarlane has also in his possession several plates of date 1728, with the crest of Francis engraved upon them. This crest likewise shows the Royal Crown resting, upon a book.
James Francis Lenox, now in British Columbia, was born on 7 April 1845 and married Elizabeth Odette, daughter of Manners McKay of Moreen, Co Dublin. They had two sons and one daughter, Walter Lenox, Selby Lenox and Maud.
