2 - Isabella went to work as a servant for a local farmer. When she was 16 years old he seduced/ raped her and she became pregnant. The farmer probably because he was already married refused to acknowledge the child as his and Isabel went back to her family where they raised the child James as one of their own children.
It was many years later before James was told that the woman he looked upon as his older sister was in fact his mother.

MACFARLANE - At Cherry Cottage, Callander,on 3rd December 1948, Archibald Macfarlane (of P. Macfarlane & Sons, Slaters) husband of Catherine Callum in his 85th year. Funeral on Monday, 6th December, to Kilmahog Cemetry from Cherry cottage at 2.30. p.m.

Mr Archibald Macfarlane
One of Callander's oldest natives died at his home this (Friday) morning in the person of Mr Archibald Macfarlane, Cherry Cottage. He was in his 85th year.
Mr Macfarlane for many years carried carried on the business of P. Macfarlane & Sons, slaters and builders which was founded in 1792, and and is now conducted by his son Peter. In his young days Mr Macfarlane was an enthusiastic football player. A native of the town, none knew the the history of the district better and it was always a pleasure to chat with him about old times . He also posessed a wide knowledge of the works of Burns from which he could quote at great length. He was a member of St. Kessog's Church and also a prominent Freemason, having from time to time held office in Lodge Ben Ledi.
The funeral takes place on Monday to Kilmahog Cemetry at 2.30 p.m..

Archibald married Isabella Rattray on 13 Nov 1890 in Hawthorn Bank, Dunkeld Road, Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. Isabella was born on 4 Apr 1868 in Moulin, Perthshire, Scotland; died on 24 Sep 1921 in Callander, Perthshire, Scotland; was buried in Kilmahog Graveyard, Callander, Perthshire, Scotland.
