Below is an obituary of Clarissa McFarlane Kendrick written by her grandson, William J. Kendrick: OBITUARY: IN MEMORIAM OF CLARISSA KENDRICK: Wife of James Kendrick, who died in Elk Garden Russell County, Virginia, August 2nd 1877, aged about seventy-seven years......She had lived a member of the Methodist Church South fifty-five years.....James Kendrick's father must have been Captain Kendrick in the Revolutionary days of Washington County, when it included all of southwest Virginia. His wife's mother was a Price, a daughter of Colonel James McFarlane and his father was William, who was in the great Indian battle at Point Pleasant in 1774. He was wounded in this battle having one of his eyes knocked out by an Indian arrow. William McFarlane was a Captain during the Revolution. He was an Indian fighter, a Captain of his company in case of Indian raids. His son, James, also was a Colonel in the War of 1812. He had a son, Alexander, who was the father of John McFarlane who was the father of the present McFarlane generation. Children of John were William, Albert, John Carl and George. His wife was Lou Hurt. One daughter Lizzie, died young. Col. James was the father of Dr. McFarlane and Clarissa McFarlane. Their mother was said to be a Price. Clarissa was the wife of James Kendrick. ...George Hopkins lived in Rosedale most of his life. He lived to be seventy-one years old and was buried west of Oaks Garage. Just a short distance from where he is buried is the old McFarlane Cemetary, where Col James, his wife, Father William and son, Dr. McFarlane are buried. Lovejoy 71 WV WV WV General Carpenter STORY: Sam cut a picture of a Rattlesnake on a tree on the east side of Upland, Mason County, near Fraziers Bottom, Putnam County, West Virginia, and the tree finally died about 1940-1970 (info from Mervin DEAL, grandson of Fannie McFarland by second marriage). Sam and a partner had a large amount of counterfeit money, and were just about to get caught by the law, when they left the county (probably around 1885) (information from son Loren LOVEJOY, and also Millie DOSS, sister of Mervin DEAL <she was raised by Fannie Ballanger till her death>). When a young man he moved to Kansas, settling in Hillsdale, Miami County. He invented the Tripp Hammer on a Self Feeder Threshing Machine. It was bought by Nicholson and Shepard. They gave him a machine for the rights to the invention. His son, Loren, said he stole a horse in Kansas, so moved west. He left Kansas and came to Seattle in June 1901 where he resided until his death. LETTER: (Letter from Mervin Deal, grandson of Fannie Lovejoy and Addison M. Ballenger, by their daughter, either Roxie or Millie Ballenger). Fraziers Bottom, W.Va. Nov 26, 1971 Dear Mr. Morris I don't know who Thornton and Fannie Lovejoy's parents were. They are originally from Sissonville. That is back of Charleston, W.Va. Samuel Lovejoy left W.Va. at a young age. He cut a picture of a Rattlesnake on a tree on this side of Upland, W.Va. and the tree finally died. He was in some kind of trouble and left here and he went to Kansas and went to threshing and then went to Seattle, WA. Only received one letter from him after he left here. The Lovejoys got a small pamphlet and he had 2 boys and one of the boys was a telegraph operator and was on a ship. He signaled it by a flashlight. They said when it sank, this Lovejoy boy got on a piece of timber and made it to safety. Fannie Lovejoy had 6 children: one small infant James (dead), Genis Lovejoy, Robert Lovejoy, Agnes Lovejoy, Charley Lovejoy, and Samuel Lovejoy. All of these are dead except one of Genis' daughters was living about 4 years ago when we were there and her name was Dora (Lovejoy) Francis and she lived out back of Pomeroy, Ohio. Far as I know, Fannie and Jim Lovejoy were buried at Evergreen cemetery, and there are no monuments. Agnes married a Jiminson. Charley died when he was about 91 years. He stayed with me. Charley stayed with his mother till she passed away, then he came and stayed with me until he died. So Robert and Charley. My grandmother didn't talk much about her first husband. I am pretty sure he was killed in the Army. And then she married Add Ballanger. He was also killed in the Army. She had 2 children by Ballanger. My mother had a younger sister that had never seen her Dad. Sorry we waited so long to answer. If you want to know any more I will let you know if I can find out anymore. | 2089 | Cherokee Heritage Below is Robert Huntsingers application to the Cherokee Guion Miller Roll Application. His mother was Hazy/Dosey Goode Shehan Huntsinger. Robert's mother Hazy was a sister to my great grandfather William Monroe Shehan who was Cherokee himself. The problem is that their mother Parasonar or Parbanor Goode had three children by her Cherokee Indian boyfriend. Parbanor later married a Daniel Shehan in Burke County, North Carolina and later settling in Rutherford. I am trying to find out more about this. There could have had to be a Bastard bond done when Parasoner and her Cherokee boyfriends child. There was Hasey, George and William children to Parasonar Goode, daughter of Edward and Lucretia Good. All three children claimed to be full blooded Cherokee.
