| 3414 | LAVINA (MCFARLAND) HARRIS (1835 to ca 1900) (Research by Peter Folsom McFarlin - May, 2012, rev Dec 2018) William McFarland, "...reared a large family. Eleven children arrive d at years of maturity. But one son is living, Anderson, at Coitsville . Four of his daughters are living, viz: Mrs Lydia Mahan, Liberty, Tru mbull county; Miss Jemima McFarlin , Niles; Mrs Matilda Price, Coitsvil le, and Mrs Lavina Harris, Youngstown..." (*1 p 168). In the sketch fo r Elizabeth Loveland (*1 p 165), Williams wrote, "...Elizabeth becam e the mother of six sons and six daughters." All above written in 18 8 1-1882. Lavina McFarland, twelfth child of William and Elizabeth (Loveland) Mc Farland, was born on the family farm on the Hazelton road in Coitsvill e, Ohio in 1835. she stayed with her mother and father until his deat h in 1853, when she went to live wi th her nearby married sister Matild a Price, where Lavina is found in 1860, age twenty-five. In 1870 she r ejoined her mother Elizabeth and brother Amos McFarland. In that censu s she is listed as Lucinia, which may have been a nickname for her th e n. At that time they were living in Coitsville center near her brothe r Anderson McFarland's farm. After her sister Candace Harris' death in 1874, Lavina married the wid ower, Hamilton Harris the next year. Both her mother Elizabeth and bro ther Amos sort of 'went along' and are listed as boarding with the Har ris household in 1880. I have foun d no record of any children for he r and Hamilton Harris (PFM). Lavina (McFarland) Harris died sometime between 1882 and 1900 when Ham ilton is found in Youngstown listed with his third wife, Elizabeth, bo rn in Ohio, fifteen years his younger. | 3420 | Letter written Oct. 12, 1918 to Uncle Jim (James Robert McFarland) from Ft. Worth. His address is Private James R. McFarland, 109 Supply Train, A.E.F.N.Y. 34 Division, "Dear Uncle Jim, I guess you are sailing upon the deep blue sea tonight. How I would love to see you. I know you are glad that you are on your way "to lick the Kaiser." Mother left this afternoon for Ladonia. We all wanted to see little Auntie (Lola) marrry but we couldn't all go so of course Mother was the one to go. I can't relize that she is going to marry. Just think this time tomorrow night she and the Capt. (Joe Meredith Hill) will be on their way to Boston. I just can't. My hasn't it changed since last year? This school is entirely different. there is not nearly as much school spirt because the arm spirit is taking the place of it. What did you think of Margaret's marriage? It was certainly a supprise to everybody. Anna May was telling me about it. Lieut. Fox is to be stationed at camp Lewis in washington. Grace has certainly turned literary. She has read, read, read, since school has been out. We have been out a week ago Tuesday. I think we shall start back Monday. They expect to open the schools then. We have escaped the influenza so far. I don't think we will take it. There is really nothing happening out here now. We haven't had many Foot Ball games on account of the quarentine. I think we have one with Dallas next week or maybe this week. We have a real good skiff this year. Paul Boynton is the editor. I am taking music from Mrs. Doering and believe me the Baroness is certainly making me work. I think by the time she gets through with me that I will be able to play. I hope so. Daddy and Jean Shelley have already gone to bed so Grace and I will have to go too. I found this clipping and I imagine that Mother meant to send it to you so I will send it wheather she meant for me to or not. With bushels and bushels of love. Weezie. I don't expect I will get this mailded until Friday when Mother gets back, cause we have lost your address thats why I haven't written oftener because we are always loseing it." P. 97 from Lola McFarland Hill's book: LOUISE VIOLET JENNINGS - MARRIED TO Elliott Taylor, born Jan. 9, 1905 in Taylor Texas. The first McFarland grandchild and the darling of the entire family. Many weeks were spent in Ladonia. She went to Amarillo with her family in 1909 and joined the Christian Church in 1913. Her father took her oonfession and baptized her. In 1914 they moved to McKinney and in 1917 to Fort Worth where they lived in Goode Hall. The summer of 1919 was spent with her grandmother, Little Auntie and Jane Hill and the nurse, Hazle. The Henry Graves were there (in Manitou, Colo.) at the same time and she and 'Little' Henry did a lot of mountain climbing. She graduated from High School in Fort Worth and spent two years in T. C. U. and then had one year at Transylvania, her father's alma mater, where she joined the Chi Omega Sorority. 1924 was spent in Ladonia in her grandmother's home where she taught 2nd grade in Ladonia Public School. 1925, she received her A. B. degree from T. G. U. and taught school in Lubbock High School for two years. She help¬ed to organize Delphin Chapters in Oklahoma and Wyoming, and with the aid of Mr. T. W. Marse she opened and operated the Kathy Lou Shop in Lubbock. From 1930 to 1933 she taught school in Lubbock and in 1934 she married Elliott Taylor. She lived in Post, Quitaque, and Plainview, then to Lubbook for the last move. James Elliott, Walter Jennings, and Mary Jane were her children. Many have been her activities, many are her friends and generous and loving she has been to all who come in con¬tact with her. She has given most generously of her time and effort to her mother and her husband's mother. Now they own a lovely place in Las Vegas, and her hospitality is beyond de¬scription. Not only has she furnished a honeymoon retreat to more than one couple, but even extended it to her friends' friends. Her grandchildren will rise up and call her blesse | Jennings, Louise Violet (I30047)

| 3421 | Levina Jemima McFarland, born April 1854 in Coitsville, Ohio (*1), was the third child of Anderson and Sarah McFarland and grew up as the oldest on the small family farmstead on the Hazelton road . In the 1860's Levina moved with her family to th e 190 acre farm near Coitsville village center. She was known as 'Vine' by her family, and referred to as 'Vina' by Williams (*2 p 175). In 1880, Vine, at age twenty-six, was still living with her parents, sister Betty and three younger brothers on the prosperous McFarland farm in Coitsville. She and Betty were both school teachers, which may account for them "attending school" i n that census year. According to family records, she married a Samuel (Lemuel?) M McBride in 1883. However, census records for Ohio and Pennsylvania, that were checked, didn't reveal where he came from, or went to. She reportedly died in 1886 (*1), and I have no further information about Levina (McFarland) McBride or possible children. Photocopies of the vital records pages in that bible, plus copies of other vital record notes and letters, were given to Peter F McFarlin in 1974, by his uncle, Charles Kirk McFarlin, in Short Hills, New Jersey, who had the bible and no tes in his possession at that time. *2 Williams; 1882 v 2 | McFarlin, Levina Jemima (I16389)
