4866 Neil (Niel) MacFarlane was married to Isabella MacArthur 13 July 1814 on the Isle of Tiree. Neil was from the island of Iona and they returned to live there. Their first child Walter was born on Iona 14 May 1815 and the second child Cristy was al so born there 25 May 1817 as was John on 1 August 1819 (my gggrandfather). They were all christened in the kirk at a Bunessan, Isle of Mull.
Neil was known on Iona as "Niall a rudha" (Neil at the Point) and was one of the first to leave Iona for Canada in 1821. He settled first in Dalhousie Township, Lanark County, Ontario where he remained until 1835 before removing to Eldon Township , Victoria County. The reason he moved was because some members of his wife's MacArthur family had later settled there.

(Research):#735 Fasti Ecclesiæ Scoticanæ: the Succession of Ministers in the Church of Scotland from the Reformation (1915-), Scott, Hew, (9 volumes. Edinburgh: Oliver and Boyd, 1915-), FHL book 941 D3s; FHL microfiche 6026402., vol. 4 p. 90.

Most Ancestry.com trees that show his parents, show Rev. John and Elizabeth Stewart. I'm not convinced as that Neil would have been 19 when married to a woman 7 years his senior and naming pattern suggests his father was Walter. Another source sho w his DOB (without naming parents) as 1785 which fits better with the marriage date.-Ed.

4873 Never married. When Catherine baptised [her son] James Shearer [MacFarlane], the church record shows that the father "was said by her to be James Shearer, First Concession, Elgin".

4874 Neville Saunders (Florence Gertrude Mcfarlane's first husband) was born on 7 November 1911 and died in 1982. His mother was Hannah Patterson and his father was Lionel Saunders.
Two of Lionel's siblings names were Adel and Douglas. They originally lived in Kimberley South Africa

involved in the mine in Kimberley (E.R.P.M Mine.) The Saunders family also immigrated from Scotland.
