| 958 | (Research):Big Y results show this line is Cadet line, BY674>FT64717>BY7788 which dates to around 1500 AD and is associated with the Gartartan line of MacFarlanes. 1 - George Macfarlan late feuar here 22.12.1828 86, wife Jane Mackinlay 14.8.1809 59 [MI Callander] 2 - I'm now conceding that my George Macfarlane was from New Kilpatrick and married Janet McKinlay of Callander and they then lived and died in Callander. I've not found her with the Annie McKinlay's and the Janet born there in 1751/2 is not her.. . I'm finding her as Janet in the OPR marriage proclamations but then as Jane on the MI. [E-mail from descendant Larry Bryant rec: 02 Sept.2008] 3 - OPR's show George registered in his parish of New Kilpatrick and Janet in her parish of Callander. I thought this was reversed but George must have come up to Callander to work in the lime quarry, bought a house, and married Janet McKinlay the re in 1781. [E-mail from descendant Larry Bryant] 4 - My old George was originally from New Kilpatrick. He was a quarryman near Callander as a young man and must have meet Jane/Janet there. I've not been able to connect her to the McKinlays, but there were a bunch there near Anie... [E-mail from descendant Larry Bryant rec: 13 Apr 2010] 5 -Sasines Perthshire #216, Jan 22, 1782, "George McFarlane, lime quarrier, Milntown of Achleshie, seized, Dec 31, 1781, in part of a tenement in KIRKTOWN of CALLANDER; on disp. by George Lawson in Kirktown of Callander, June 18, 1781, PR 44.267" Please note the marriage records I sent you earlier... OPR's show George registered in his parish of New Kilpatrick and Janet in her parish of Callander. I thought this was reversed but George must have come up to Callander to work in t he lime quarry, bought a house, and married Janet McKinlay there in 1781... so now i'm looking at MacF's in New Kilpatrick early 18th century... any help there? George still seems a likely match to your early 1700's MacF there in Callander... I'm also trying to connect my Callander MacF to Drymen MacF. Noticed you have some Drymen but I can't quite connect. My probable ancester George 1742-1828 wife Janet McKinlay might be the son of Walter MacF b abt 1705 and wife Jean Mcaulay b abt 1710 who married in Drymen 1728 and had 9 children born at Blarnavaid farm, Drymen, including a George born 1741 and c ommon sibling names William and John. Most of the children per OPR were married in Drymen except George. My George's marriage was recorded in nearby New Kilpatrick & Callander in 1781. Walter MacF born abt 1705 and Jean Mcaulay born abt 1710. they were married 6 Apr 1728 and lived at Blarnavaid farm, Drymen near the Buchanan Castle and had 9 children... Dougal 1729, Grizall 1731, Janet 1734,, William 1735, John 1738, George 1741 , Walter 1743, Duncan 1744, and Andrew 1748. [E-mail from Larry Bryant rec: 4 Nov 2012] Date: Sat, 24 Nov 2012 10:04:49 +0000 From: joan.kemp@cantab.net To: bryantlar2@hotmail.com Subject: Re: Macfarlanes I meant to tell you - we drove back from Edinburgh to Oban through Callander on Friday, past the quarries where the McF forebears probably worked! Joan, when you went to the quarry where was it? Above you can see he worked at the Milntown of Achleshie. It is due east of Callander, other quarries were west of Callander above Dalvey... when we were there in 2009 we drove around there and spok e to a resident there. most of that quarry had been covered over and was grass now. nearby was a rv/camping park. I know that NK had quarries too, maybe he worked there for some years and then went to Milntown, before marrying he got the place i n Callander. On 24/11/2012 02:30, LARRY BRYANT wrote: checking my notes I do have the Callander MI's... 241, Walter MacF feuar here 13-7-«u»1874«/u» 76, w Ann stewart 10-8-1862 55, children Charlotte 7-2-1851 17 m, John 9-12-1875 22, Walter M 21-10-1897 40, Jean M 15-5-1897 46. My error - can't read my own writing. Walter McF should be 13.7.1774 I also have Walter McF 21.10.1890 27 - which puzzled me. I thought these dates needed re-checking, so didn't include them The Callander MI's are in a printed (typewritten) book at New Register House Mitchell Library in Glasgow has the book also and i bought one. these were done by John and Sheila Mitchell for the Scottish Genealogy Society in 1974. slightly different date for Walter 1874 vs your 1844??? they only had Wm MacF in 237, The questionable George and Jane(t) in 239, walter 241, and Duncan 242... Do you realise that you can access these records online via the scotlandspeople website? You have to buy credits to view, but pricing is reasonable. I wanted to have a real go at the family history, so used the opportunity of a visit to Edinburgh , but both of us could have found the same material, apart, maybe, for MI's, from our home pc's. years ago when this was "Scotsorigin" or something I did search there, but then found most was also online for free. About 10 years ago before a trip to Scotland, I had searched for possible Wm's born near Callander and there was only one, Wm b 1783 to George and Janet. the Ship Favorite from Scotland to NB in Nov 1816 had Wm age 25 from Callander. again the Cap tain was paid to bring back young settlers so ages might have been low? The NB census for 1851 showed Wm arriving in Nov 1816 and he is definitely my line. The George and Janet a good choice for parents or now maybe your George and Elizabeth Wood ? Did you get any other children for them? I looked again for Willam McFand couldn't find any others. The DNA evidence is very interesting. 'Fraid we can't help here as Robert McF was my husband's ggg grandfather «b»what is the line from robert down to your husband«/b»?, but descended thro ugh his maternal grandmother. Are there any male Macf descendents from his grandmothers brothers or male couisn? It would be great to find one and be able do DNA to compare to our William line! DNA only works via the direct male line I have had DNA done for this MacF line and we appear to be related to cadets from Gartartan? Do you mean Gartocharn - (pretty) village on Loch Lomond? NO...The MacF cadets built a castle at Gartmore with 2 turrets and walls (picture above) like the Inveruglas castle on Isle in Loch Lomand. More of it is standing than at Inveruglas. Nearb y is the Gartmore House that is used as hotel. Gartmore is just south of Aberfoyle. The confusing thing is the Married record for Geo and Janet with him recorded as from NK??? that's why I looked at the Drymen Walter MacF with son George born 1741, and several in our line using Walter for middle name??? George could have been working temporarily in NK parish . NK (Bearsden) to Callander is only about 30 miles... yes, all of this is close... the ancestral home in Gartmore, Callander, New Kilpatrick, even Drymen if that figures in... Joan, looking back at some of my old notes, John MacK and Janet Blair had 11 kids from 1750-1770 incuding Janet in 1752, but she married Peter Mcgregor 22 Jan 1776 and they had at least 3 sons Peter 1787, James 1791 and Alexander 1789 in KIlmadoc k per family search... don't believe this is our Janet. Saw the MI for this, but didn't copy it BTW amazing fact, but there appear to be no extant burial records for Callandar - very strange and need to check, but there are none listed under the index for Old Parish Records, so the MI's may be all there is. familysearch.com did show Robert MacF and Elspeth Wright had a son George 7 or 10 Oct 1698. and that George Macf and Eliz Wood had a son Duncan 01 Jand 1751 in Callander but no record of George 1742??? oops, found in my notes their other children... Catherine 1730,Robert 1731, Duncan 1734, Anne 1736, Isabell 1739, George 1742, alexander 1744, John 1747, and Duncan1751, but you found these too. I double checked George 1742, but can't find on Familysearch. Definately in OPR Also, on Familysearch.org. George McF, bapt May 1741, son of Walter McF and Jean McCauley - I wonder what other family Walter & Jean had. Walter and Jean had Dougal 17829, Grizall 1731, Janet 1734, William 1735, John 1738, George 1741, Walte r 1743, Duncan 1744, and Andrew 1748... Could this be 'your' antecedant Walter??? Biggest question is the historical naming pattern, first son after father's father, first daughter after wive's mother, second son after wive's father and 2nd daughter after father's mother... none of these seem to follow that... Our George and Janet should have parents William and Elizabeth MacF and Robert and Christine MacKinlay. George and Elizabeth Wood don't even have a son William... i had found Geo and Eliz Wood with Geo 1742 and all children in Callander but for some reason didn't like the fit??? Again back to our George is supposed to be from NK... we need another c lue. Joan | Mcfarlane, George BY7788 GeM01 (I15834)

| 962 | (Research):Chevalier Terrance Gach MacFarlane 4:10 AM (14 hours ago) Dear Andrew, Five days ago I found a FF between the Heiress of Line and the late Raymond M'F (brother of our co-admin Barbara Duff). I wrote to her (with a copy to James Black because he is our admin team's best FF expert): "Below you will find a FF match page for your late brother. I am only sharing this with you and Jim Black who is the best FF member of our admin team. Your brother matches the woman who is the current Heiress of Line to the chiefship of clan Macfarlane. Please do not discuss this with anyone else until the three of us can work out exactly how you are related to the Heiress. Only two other people in the world know the Heiress's name and for the moment I want to leave it that way. Her FF kit is in the name of her eldest married daughter, Lorraine Fisher. It took me years to convince her to take the FF and her results did not post until this summer when I had my hands full in Scotland with my wife being ill for six weeks." Andrew, as you are one of the people who does know the heiress's name I am writing to you so that you can see the attached tree I have pulled together of her ancestry. I have asked her and her daughter to help fill in the gaps but they do not seem to be able to do so -- can you? I have cut the tree off in the 1600s because it is my best guess that is where we will find the connection between these two. Jim is working with this tree to see if he can match the chromosomes to the people shown in it. Thanks, Terrance | McFarlane, Raymond Edwin AlM02 (I406)
