  Must have been named for Hugh Barnet. In Caswell Co. NC Hugh Barnet (Jr.) bonded to marry Margurete McFarland on Jan. 26, 1784. Bondsman was Thomas Barnett. The Barnett family was a neighbor to the McFarland family in NC. In fact there is a Hugh Barnet (Sr.) who sold 573 acres to Robert McFarland in 1760 in Orange Co. Records. Robert then sold that land. In 1764 a Joseph Barnet sold 202 acres to Rober t McFarland. It appears he never married. He is in the 1860 census in Waverly, Lincoln Co. MO, as H. B. McFarland living with another family.
