  Phil's ancestor is Joseph McFarlane, born abt. 1827 in Ireland, died bet. 1866 and 71 in Lanarkshire, Scotland, where he was working in coal mines. He seems to have been married to Mary Fern (although Phil said her name was Mary Cunningham, the census records I found in Scotland indicate it was Fern).
