  This family derive their derscent from James Macfarlane, who was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, and emigrated to America, landing in New York in 1723. Tradition, fortified by stronger evidence, says that his two brothers, Andrew and Robert, came to America with him, one going in the vicinity of Albany, N.Y., and the other going to Virginia, where MacFarlanes are numerous and "prominent in religi ous, political and military circles."
