[ MI by John S McFarlane 2008 ref:0026e ] 2 - My Grandmother was Mary Graham McFarlane born 1899 Waipu NZ. Her Father was John MacFarlane (ID.1820) The Scots seem to put all their children on the Headstone (which is great for genealogy) but John (ID.1820) was buried at Waipu Cemetery NZ. [ e-mail from Vicki Burton 7 Oct 2007 ] 3 - I have John's death certificate and he died 27th April 1929 aged 75, but then I have been to Waipu cemetery and taken a picture of the head-stone and it reads 27th June 1927 aged 70, I also have his marriage certificate and old perochial birth register. I am having trouble finding out when John came to NZ, on his death certificate it says he was in NZ for 45 yrs so that makes it about 1884.I do know that he came by himself and sailed direct to Otago (South Island) then made his way up to Waipu, and married Catherine McMillan 28 January 1888. Catherine's parents came to NZ with Norman McLeod from Novia Scotia but not John. In Waipu Cemetery the McFarlane Family were buried at the far back, out of the way of the Novia Scotians - but in recent years they changed the entrance and are now in the front.
