- Albert Ross was born in (Youngstown?) Ohio in 1854, the son of William H and Harriet Ross, both born in Pennsylvania. In 1860, Albert, the youngest at seven, is attending school with his three older sisters. His father is a lime burner at a Youngs town foundry, and his oldest brother, James Ross age twenty-two, is married and a saloon keeper on his own.
By 1870 Albert's father is not listed in the census and his (widowed?) mother is shown with $10,000 value in real estate and $500 in personal estate. This is a large sum for those times and may reflect some payment for her husband's death? In an y event, Albert's brother James with his daughter and new wife Mary, have joined the Ross' household in Youngstown. James is still a saloon keeper and Albert at seventeen, has work as a "roll turner" in a steel mill.
I'm fairly sure Albert is still located in Youngsstown in 1880, but this needs confirmation by census or business directory. In 1881 Albert marries Olive McFarland (*1). In 1900, Albert is renting a house on Spring Street in Youngstown, and is a " supt of Roll" in the census.
By 1910 he and Olive have moved to Forsythe Ave, Columbus, Ohio, where they own their own home, and he continues in the steel industry as a roll turner for a chain company. In 1920, at age sixty-five, his occupation is still a roll turner for a ch ain company, living at the same address.
Albert Ross is not located in the 1930 census and may have died by then.

Photocopies of the vital records pages in that bible, plus copies of other vital record notes and letters, were given to Peter F McFarlin in 1974, by his uncle, Charles Kirk McFarlin, in Short Hills, New Jersey, who had the bible and no tes in his possession at that time.
