Notes |
- 1 - Not present with family at 1861 census where his wife is shown as head of household so William must have died or left before 7 Apr 1861.
2 - William Mcfarlane was born Feb. 9, 1823, bapt. Feb. 13, 1823 in Cortachy and Clova, Angus, Scotland to father William [SB James-Ed.] Mcfarlane and mother Mary Malcom. a James Mcfarlane is in the household [brother to William-Ed.].
In 1841 William Mcfarlan, age 15, born Cortachy and Clova, in Angus is working as an Agricultural Laborer with the Alexander Ogilvy family.
In 1851 Wm Mcfarlane, age 28, born Cortachy, Forfar is a shepherd living in civil parish Rescobie, Co. Angus, living with the Charles Cable family.
On October 12, 1851, in Forfar, Angus, Scotland Jane Fraser married William MacFarlane.
In 1861 William Mcfarlen, 36, shepherd, born Cortachy, Forfarshire is living with James Clark 29 and David Lindsay 15 all as boarders, living in Cortachy & Clova, Angus.
In 1861 Jane F. Macfarlane, 34, born Logierait, Perthshire is working as a yarn winder, living with James 8, William 4, Mary 13, all born Forfar.
So, it seems that they are not living together in 1861 for some unknown, maybe economic reasons, or they divorced.
In 1871 census William Mcfarlane 14 and James Mcfarlane 18, both born in Forfar are not living with mother or father, but as boarders. Haven't found Jean Fraser McFarlane yet, nor father William.
