He was the Commander of Royal Guard for Princess Margaret during Royal Visit of 1958. He was the Commander of the Parade for Queen Elizabeth II in Victoria in 1959. He was appoi nted as Trustee of the Maritime Museum of British Columbia 1959. He held a Master Mariner's Certificate of Service (Foreign Going). He operated a market garden in Central Saanich from 1972 to 1992.
