William Mason McFarland was listed in the Coitsville, Ohio census of 1 860 when his widowed mother Samantha (McClelland) McFarland had return ed to her parents home there. After she remarried John H Reed in 186 3 they all moved to the nearby Ree d farm. William stayed on and helpe d in the building of a successful farming business (*1 p 175) with hi s new stepfather and stepbrothers, where he was listed in 1870. Later , in 1880, he was continuing to farm at his step-brother William Reed ' s farm in Coitsville.
He married after 1880, but appears to have had no children, and was di vorced before his death in 1891. In the Application for letters ... Wi lliam McFarlin of Youngstown died 17 April 1891, leaving no widow, hav ing been divorced. Virgil C McFarl in, admr., states he is the only hei r. Virgil C McFarlin, brother, Youngstown; Alphea McVey, half sister , Struthers (*1).
