  Residence 1920 • Berkeley, Alameda, California [His father] James was apparently never able to keep a job for long, and James Edgar had taken to crime to support himself financially; by age 14 he had already had several arrests. Sent to Preston Reformatory Mar 12, 1921 aged 17, he escaped May 7, 1923, but was captured and returned May 26, 1923; according to an "Oakland Tribune" article of 5/23/23, he was shot while escaping from police after a crime spree in the East Ba y and had a loaded gun under his pillow when caught Released from Preston Reformatory Aug 4, 1923 Residence Feb 21, 1927 • San Quentin, Marin, California, USA arrived at San Quentin prison for a bank robbery in Richmond, CA; he was arrested for this while in Denver, CO as a student pilot, according to a newspaper article in the" Modesto Herald" Release from prison Jan 15, 1936 • San Quentin, Marin, California, USA Where he went from here is anybody's guess, as his family had cut him off after his arrest for the bank robbery.
