Dear Friends.
After several weeks of illness, leading up to Christmas 2017, my dear wife, Mary Dougan Lobban (nee Paton) was finally diagnosed with lower abdominal cancer. Such was her general state of fitness, that she was considered too frail to undergo strong chemotherapy or radiation treatment, and she was committed to the Palliative Care unit in Modbury Hospital, where she finally succumbed to the inevitable. In the evening of Monday 1st January, she passed on peacefully surrounded by family.
The funeral (cremation) ceremony took place at Harrison Funeral Home, Ridgehaven, SA, on Monday 8th January. A large congregation of family and friends attended to say the final farewell. The service was non-religious and tastefully conducted by, Rebecca Wilson, Funeral Celebrant.
A large amount of floral tributes arrived from overseas and from here in Australia, plus numerous cards of sympathy. Family mourners apart, it was nice to welcome several members of the Scottish Associations of South Australia (SASA) organisation. Similarly, some residents from our local neighbourhood in Pooraka, bore testimony to how well May was recognised in the district.
Our Piper Grandson, Jason Moore, provided that wee touch of "hame" with some of May's favourite tunes, including "Dark Island". Likewise, a display of family photographs taken during May's lifetime, and our 64 years of happy married life, was screened to the tunes "It Had to be You" (Sinatra) and "Unforgettable" (Nat King Cole): both reminders of our courting days!
Thus, on behalf of my family, I take this opportunity to thank the Harrison Funeral staff and everyone who attended, or simply sent me condolences. My May had a lovely send off, which will be long remembered in our family.
Respectfully yours. . .Malcolm Lobban & Family. Pooraka, SA. 10th January 2018.
