Notes - In the 1789 listings of members in Communion at Big Springs Presbyterian Church in Newville, in Hugh Laughlin's district (p. 49) is Margaret McElhenny 33, Hugh McElhenny 30, and Hugh Kirkpatrick, age 13. If this is correct, Hugh was born in 1759.
Hugh was married to the daughter of Robert Shannon, as witnessed in Robert's will of 1795 where he mentions his son-in-law Hugh McElhenny and his son Robert McElhenny. Robert must have died before Hugh's will of 1823 where he leaves his estate to his son Samuel and daughters Jane and Rebecca.
