  Mary Helen Haines notes: Her birth date comes from the Morristown Bible record. Where did this marriage take place, and is the Mary McFarland who married James Hunter the same one who is the daughter of John and Mary Montgomery? One source says that they married in Cowpens, (Spartanburg Co.) South Carolina. If that is true, what was she doing there without her family? It is possible that she went south with her brother Robert McFarland and was living with his family when she married James Hunter.
