  In Goodspeed's History of Southeast Missouri's history of religion in the area, H.S. Watts is listed as the Reverend of the Methodist Episcopal Church South in 1853 in Fredericktown (there is an H.N. Watts listed in 1852 in Fredericktown--is that another or is it a misunderstanding of the handwritten record?) H.S. Watts is mentioned as 1856 and 1857 in Cape Girardeau. Another Rev. mentioned is J.L. McFarland in 1854 in Charleston, 1857 in Ste. Genevieve, and 1858 in Fredericktown. This John L. McFarland is from Virginia, and not a known relative. He is in the 1860 census in St. Francois Co., Liberty twn. Will Record, Vol 1, p. 297-302. H.S. Watts leave to daughter Mary McFarland, wife of John McFarland, and my son Wm. J. Watts, $5.00 each. To son Jerome H. Watts, he forgives his debts. and to wife Mary A. Watts the estate. Also mentions his daughter Jennie T. Williams, wife of Joseph Williams, and son Jerome H.
