  • Notes
    • 1 - This is suggested by some researchers as same person as Robert Lee McFarland (CC I104606)

2 - According to tradition the parents of James Macfarlane emigrated from Scotland to the north of Ireland, where they suffered, with other Protestants, in the siege of Londonderry in 1689.
After their arrival in America, and within the last forty years, one of the family, on the female side, had in her possession a curious small glass cup, which was said to have been used in dealing out the scanty rations of food to the starving pat riots, during the siege, when rats, mice and horses' blood had a market value.

3 - Some people [Ancestry.com trees] have John McFarland, born 1677 in Argyllshire or Perthshire married to Nancy Glendinning as the son of Robert McFarland, born abt. 1651 in Co. Tyrone. And then some people have this same Robert as the father al so of James McFarland, born 1695 who came to America in 1723 and died in 1770 in Cumberland Co. PA.
Both these lines are in the FTDNA Cadet lineage.
Some people also have Robert's father as Patrick Mc Farlan, born 1630 in Buchanan, Stirlingshire.
