Notes - 1st Baron (1225-Aft 1263): Gilchrist, the son of Alwyn, 2nd Earl of Lennox, obtained from his brother, Malduin, the 3rd Earl of Lennox, the 31,000 acres of land and Barony of Arrochar in the upper part of the Earldom of Lennox. This charter bears no date, but was granted in the reign of King Alexander II, between 1225 and 1239. This became the home of the Clan for nearly 600 years. Under the designation of "Brother of the Earl," Gilchrist appears as witness to many of Earl Malduin's charters granting land to vassals. Gilchrist died in the reign of Alexander III (1249-1286).
