Kentucky Benjamins:
The Rockcastle River flows from border of present day Jackson and Rockcastle Counties down as border between Pulaski and Laurel counties until it joins the Cumberland River near Honeybee dividing McCreary and Whitley counties.

The 1810 Washington County census is probably refering to a different Benjamin from the Benjamin who received the land grant for 1000 acres. The children, William and James are the children of the Washington Co. Benjamin.

There is a Benjamin Mc Farland in Harrison Co. KY in 1810 with 2 men over 25 in the family. Also present in Harrison Co. is Joseph Mc Farland with 2 over 25, and 6 under 25. The Benjamin appears to be the son of Robert McFarland (1730 to abt. 1798 KY, married to a Martha) who moved to Marion Co. Indiana in 1826. The Joseph is the one who was married to Margaret White.

Iron Works and Speedwell Furnance
Directly south of Jacobs Creek is Ironworks Road. Benjamin was a blacksmith. (The Journal of Rockingham County History and Genealogy; Vol. III; No. 2; October 1978; pg. 58
"The Iron Works millsite is located on Troublesome Creek (so called because it was subject to sudden flooding) on State Road 2423 approximately 1.5 miles north of Monroetoe. For over one hundred and fifty years the Iron Works was an important site in Rockingham County with activities including: furnances for smelting iron, the operation of gristmills, sawmills, and blacksmith shops, and the operation of a store and an ordinary. The church on the map, New Bethel Church 1799 is not currently in existance. It is unknown exactly where the church stood or what demonination it was. It's existance is known only from county court records that mention the church. No known church records exist.
No known area cemeteries dating back to the period. On the hill near the Jacobs Creek Fire station there is an old cemetery. Graves where marked with field stones and rarely had identifying marks.
The area where Benjamin lived on Jacobs Creek originally was Rowan County formed in 1753, then became Guilford County formed in 1771, then Rockingham County formed in 1785.

the M.E. church, South yesterday afternoon and were conducted by Presiding Elder Sherman, an old friend of the deceased., and by the pastor, Rev. Bates and
Rev. T.A. Martin of Bentonville. "Uncle Billy" was one of the oldest citizens of Rogers and one of the most beloved throughout the entire community. Never
seen without a pleasant smile and a hearty word of greeting, his life has been one long benediction fo cheerfulness and encouragement to all his associates.
Especially will he be missed around the berry sheds and warehouses where he has helped for many years. The following facts regarding his life are taken from
the obituary read at the funeral by Rev. Bates: William Hayes McFarlin was born in Shelbyville, Tenn. October 27, 1827. At the age of 20 years gave his
young life to Christ and united with the M.E. church, South in which church he lived for sixty years. October 12, 1852 he married Elizabeth Miller and to
them were born six children, two of whom are dead; the living are Mrs. J.S. Kiser, Mrs. A.G. Tribble, Miss Lizzie McFarlin and H.G. McFarlin. The mother of
these children died many years ago and later he married Miss Mary Miller, who died several years ago. Mr. McFarlin came to Rogers twenty -six years ago
and was one of the charter members of this church and for many years was a member fo the official board. In the death of Bro. McFarlin the church has lost her
oldest member, the community an honored citizen, the family a devoted and much loved father, and the pastor a trusted appreciated friend. [Rogers Democrat

10/27/1827 was married to Elizabeth Miller and later to her sister, Mary Miller, who raised her sister's kids. Martha Letita Tribble "Aunt Letsie" was William
Hayes and Elizabeth's daughter, who married Allen Yell Tribble in 1879. They had three children Alice, Sadie, and Henry.
William Hayes and Elizabeth also hsd three other children besides Letsie, they were Girl McFarlin, Lizzie McFarlin, and H.G. McFarlin.
I have the write up in the paper of their deaths which were quite extensive and detailed. Also, my great grandfather, John H. was married to Lucy Ann Locke,
when he died, I have his will wheich names his widoe Lucy Ann as benefactor. The married Aug. 2, 1862, she didn't die until 1920 in Oklahoma. They are both
buried side by side in Flynn Cemetery S.W. of Cushing, Okhahoma.
I had heard a rumor of Gr. Grandfather being married before... He died in 1903 Lucy was married to another for a short time after he died, but they separated.

Organized September 1862 at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Paroled at Gainesville, Alabama, May 10, 1865. This company was recruited at the instance of Nathan Bedford Forrest shortly subsequent to his promotion to brigadier general, by Captain Montgomery Little, a native of Bedford County who had been before the war a planter and business man in Memphis. It was made up mainly of me from Bedford County, part of which is now Moore County, who were assembled in Shelbyville in September and moved from there to Murfreesboro just before the town was temporarily occupied by a Federal raiding force. They were integrated into Forrest's command in
time to participate in the confused fighting around Lavergne on October 7, 1862.
Thereafter, the combat record of this company is the record of battles in which Forrest was himself engaged. After taking part in the demonstration against Nashville on November 6, they moved with Forrest to his West Tennessee Raid, and from there to the frequent fighting around Spring Hill, Thompson's Station - where Little was killed - College Grove, Franklin and Breutwood; they also participated in the pursuit and capture of Streight during the early summer of 1863. They then moved south and east, screening Bragg's withdrawal in the Chattanooga Campaign, to take part in the Battle of Chickamauga. From here they were transformed, a part of the
nucleus of Forrest's new command, to West Tennessee.
In West Tennessee, they took part in the operations incident to Forrest's mobilization of a force from the stragglers hiding in that area and North Mississippi, and gathering supplies. The mobilization having been accomplished, they took part in the Battle of Okolona, the raid to Paducah, the capture of Fort Pillow, the Battles of Brice's Crossroads and of Harrisburg and the Memphis Raid. Following the Middle Tennessee Raid and the destruction of Johnsonville, they moved with their commander to the screening action ahead of Hood on his invasion of Tennessee, which was followed by coverage of the retreat. During all these operations, they were frequently mentioned favorably in orders. It would not be unusual for the general commanding to make favorable mention of his Escort, but the facts are that all these commendations were richly deserved.
It is significant to note that, whereas the Escort had numbered 90 men at its first muster, and had been 65 strong on its arrival in West Tennessee, it had, when paroled at Gainesville, Alabama on May 9, 1865, mustered a strength of 119. Part of this increase may be attributable to the gathering in of stragglers from other units, but a part is also due to the fact that the Escort, from its first organization to the final surrender, had an incomparable morale.

2 - MCFARLIN, J.S. - J.S. McFarlin, or "Uncle Joe" as he was best known, died Monday morning at three o'clock in Rogers and was buried the same day in the city cemetery. The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, South, being conducted by the pastor, J.F.E. Bates, the Masonic Order being in charge and holding their regular burial services. Mr. McFarlin was born in Bedford Co., Tenn. March 9, 1835 and died at his home in Rogers March 9, 1908, being just seventy - three years old. He was one of th oldest men in Rogers, having moved to Rogers from his native state and county in November of 1881. He was the youngest son oldest the family and the last one of them to pass away, his oldest brother, W.H. McFarlin, preceding him only a few months. He was married early in life to Miss Martha Jane Arnold, and to this union were born four children, two of whom survive him, Jesse McFarlin, so well known her, and Mrs. R.R. Carson [Sarah Jane Belle McFarlin Carson], also of Rogers. He leaves an only sister in Tennessee. His wife died eighteen years ago and these years have been years of loneliness to him. He was a good citizen, true to what he believed to be right. He served four years in the Southern army and was a strong believer in the rights of the Southern cause. He was an honored Mason and his brethren trusted and respected him, as was shown by the large procession of the brotherhood, being more than sixty who did him honor. After the funeral sermon, T.J. Keller paid a tribute to him in behalf of the Masonic Lodge. "Uncle Joe" was a familar figure on our streets and will be very much missed. Robert M. McFarlin (July 27, 1866 ? August 11, 1942) was an American oilman, cattle rancher, philanthropist, and businessman who is best known for amassing a fortune by drilling for oil near Glenpool, Oklahoma with his nephew and son-in-law, James A. Chapman. He was among the early pioneer oilmen who established the state of Oklahoma as a center of the oil industry in the early part of the 20th Century.
Robert McFarlin was born July 27, 1866 to Porter and Caroline McFarlin in Ovilla, Texas (near Waxahachie). He married Ida Barnard in 1886. They moved to the town of Norman, then in Oklahoma Territory, in 1890, where they worked as cattle farmers and operated a feed store, During this time, their only son was born and died. They then moved to a farm in Indian Territory near the town of Holdenville in 1895.

McFarlin and Chapman had first partnered in 1903, to create the Holdenville Oil and Gas Company, which owned 10 acres (4.0 ha) in the middle of the Glenn Pool oil field. In 1912, after the discovery of the even larger Cushing Oil Field, the two founded the McMan Oil Company, which they sold to the Magnolia Petroleum Company in 1916 for $39 million dollars. In 1918, McFarlin built an office building at 5th and Main in Tulsa, thereafter known as the McFarlin Building. The building still serves as a general office building. Also in 1918, McFarlin and Chapman organized the McMan Oil and Gas Company, which they sold to the Dixie Oil Company, a subsidiary of Standard Oil Company of Indiana, for $20 million in 1922.
In 1910, McFarlin, Harry Sinclair and some others organized the Exchange National Bank of Tulsa, which later became the National Bank of Tulsa, and is now the Bank of Oklahoma (BOK).
McFarlin's philanthropy centered on churches and higher education. The most significant projects funded by the McFarlin family included:
McFarlin College was the proposed name of a college, to be located in the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was initially proposed that the new institution of higher education be a Methodist-affiliated college. It ceased to exist as an entity when it merged with Henry Kendall College in 1920 to form the University of Tulsa. In 1929, he contributed $450,000 to build the McFarlin Library of the University of Tulsa, which is still in use.
In 1924, the Methodist Church South in Norman called on Robert McFarlin during a fund raising drive to build a new church building. Remembering the support given by the church when their infant son had died in Norman, the McFarlins made a generous contribution toward the new building. In addition, they established an endowment to support maintenance of the church. The contribution was valued at $600,000 in 1924. McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, located in Norman, Oklahoma stands in honor of his contributions to the United Methodist Church.
In 1925, the McFarlin family donated $600,000 to build the McFarlin Auditorium on the Southern Methodist University campus in Dallas, Texas.

He was married to Ida May Barnard (February 12, 1868 - November 18, 1938). Ida died of a cerebral hemorrhage in a San Antonio hospital, and was buried in the IOOF Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma. Robert died August 11, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri, and was also buried in the IOOF Cemetery in Norman. They had two daughters and one son. Their son, Robert Boger, was born in 1891 died of typhoid fever at the age of one month and 19 days. His nephew and partner, Chapman, had married their daughter, Leta Mae, in 1908. Both Robert and Ida McFarlin were inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1935.
The McFarlin house at 1610 S. Carson Ave. in Tulsa, was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on December 25, 1979, under National Register Criteria C, and its NRIS number is 79002030.

2 - Jess F. McFarland, widely known Rogers fruit dealer died at his home at the corner of South Fourth and Elm streets at 12;30 o'clock Saturday afternoon after several months of illness.
He had been in a critical condition for several weeks following a stroke of paralysis.
Mr. McFarland 72 years old, had been a local produce dealer since he moved to Rogers from Tennessee about 56 years ago. He had been engaged in the basket business during the past year.
He was born in Bedford county, Tennessee came to Rogers in 1888 adn was married to Miss Mary Derreberry here about 45 years ago. She and a son, L.L. McFarland, of Jonesboro, are among his survivors.
Mr. and Mrs. McFarland had resided in Rogers since their marriage except for a few years spent in Oklahoma City where they lived about six years and sprnt the following year at Peoria, Ill., before returning here.
Funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Central Methodist church, of which he has been amember many years, according to tentative funeral arrangements. The Rev. W. Henry Goodloe, pastor of the church, will conduct the service.
A service at the Rogers cemetery where the body will be buried, will be conducted by the Rogers Masonic lodge. He has een a member of that lodge and the Woodmen of the World for a number of years. He held the rank of 32nd degree Mason.
Beside his widow and son, Mr McFarland is survivied by a sister, Mrs. R.R. Carson of Rogers, and two cousins, Mrs. A.Y. Tribble and Mrs. Lizzie McFarland both of Rogers.
