    Notes:

    1 - Malcom's parents were Alexander and Eliza McFarland. I don't know Eliza's maiden name. They are listed in the 1860 Census of Moore Co., Rollins Store Post Office, page 36, family #249. Alexander was aged 45, Eliza 29 and Malcolm was 1 year old. There is also a daughter, Sallie,
    aged 6 and a younger brother, Wm. B. J., aged one month. Eliza apparently died before the 1870 Census. In 1870 Alexander, aged 55, is listed in Sloan's Township of Moore Co., Jonesboro Post Office, page 46, family #264. The second listing for the family is Isabella C. McFarland, age 41. Isabella is listed as House Keeper but in the 1880 Census (Moore Co., Jonesboro Township, pg. 41, family #379) she is listed as Alexanders wife. Alexander had children by both Eliza and Isabella; Sally, Malcolm, Wm. Benjamin Jones, Daniel, Margaret, Mary, Flora and Betty. Wm. Benjamin Jones McFarland reportedly built the house in the 1880s that his brother Malcom A. and his bride Mary Elizabeth moved into in Harnett Co. I don't know the date of death for Alexander or his wives.

    1 - Worth McFarland's parents were Malcolm Alexander McFarland (1858 - 1935) and Mary Elizabeth McLeod McFarland (1860 - 1921). Malcolm was reportedly from the Licking Creek area of Moore Co. (now Sanford area of Lee Co.) but moved to nearby Harnett Co. and settled on McLeod land Mary Liz's father gave them when they married (prob. in about 1884 or 1885). Malcom was nicknamed "Make" and was called "Grand Make" after he became a grandfather. He was a storekeeper but was partially paralyzed following an accident when he was aged 38. He did recover enough to walk with a cane later in life. The first child of Malcom and Mary Liz was Kate, Worth's oldest sister and my mother's mother. Worth had a sister, Maggie Belle, whom he was particularly close to. Maggie Belle stayed at home to look after her parents and never married. She helped raise my mother - who called her "Auntie" all her life.
